- It is recommended to take a proper backup of all your existing data on the HTC Desire HD such as SMS, MMS, APN Settings, Contacts, Call Logs and media files etc.
- Enable USB Debugging on your device by going to Settings > Developer Options.

Step No 1: First, download Android 5.0.2 CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM (cm-12-20150209-UNOFFICIAL-ace.zip) and Google Apps from the above links for HTC Desire HD on the desktop of your PC.
Step No 2: Unzip the CM12 ROM .zip file to get the boot.img file separately.
Step No 3: Now, plug the HTC Desire HD with PC using USB data cable and mount its USB Mass Memory.
Step No 4: Transfer the downloaded Android 5.0.2 CM12 ROM and Gapps zipped files to the root folder of the SD Card of your phone.
Step No 5: Next, move the boot.img file to android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory on the PC.
Step No 6: Disconnect the phone and turn it OFF in order to boot into Bootloader/Fastboot Mode.
Step No 7: Turn ON the device while pressing and holding the Volume Down + Power keys at the same time.
Step No 8: After entering into Fastboot Mode, go to the android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory.
9: Open the Command Prompt and type the following command, then hit Enter:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Step No 10: Now, type this command and hit Enter:
Step No 11: Choose BOOTLOADER by following the on-screen instructions and then boot it into Recovery mode.
Step No 12: While your Desire HD is now in CWM Recovery, perform wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache by going to advanced > wipe dalvik cache.
Note: – wipe dalvik cache will help you to prevent boot loops and other errors while installing ROM.
Step No 13: Go back to the main menu of Recovery, select install zip from SD card > choose zip from sdcard.
Step No 14: Locate the CM12 Nightly ROM .zip file which you’ve already transferred to the root folder of your SD Card previously. Use Power button to select it and confirm the ROM installation to start.
Step No 15: Install Google Apps (Gapps) Package by repeating the above steps.
Step No 16: After the installation of CyanogenROM 12 and Google Apps, navigate to ++++Go Back++++ and from the Recovery menu, select reboot system now.
Your Desire HD will be rebooted, it may take about 4 to 5 minutes to boot for the first time after installation.
