Get Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Stable Release on Sprint Galaxy Note 2 L900 with CM12.1 ROM

CyanogenMod custom ROM is the most custom ROM, know for its features and stability. Galaxy Note 2 owners may not receive the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop but you’ll be happy to know that the stable CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM based on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is now available for Sprint Galaxy Note 2 devices.

Keep in mind that this ROM is developed by the third-party developers, not officially released by Samsung. You’ll be required to have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM in order to install on Sprint Galaxy Note 2 L900.

Note:

This guide can be used for the Sprint Galaxy Note 2 with model number L900 only. Do not try to install this firmware on any other device or incorrect model.

Before Getting Started:

  • Take a proper backup of all your important data and settings like if you need to save data from installed apps then use the Helium app or a custom recovery.
  • The latest version of a custom Recovery should be installed on your Note 2 like CWM or TWRP.
  • Your smartphone has to be running a rooted firmware.
  • Download and install Samsung USB Drivers on your PC.
  • Make sure that the charge level of your phone’s battery is above 60% before proceeding to the installation guide.

Steps to Install CM12.1 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Stable ROM on Sprint Galaxy Note 2:

Step No 1:- First, download Android 5.1.1 CyanogenMod 12.1 custom ROM (Download cm-12.1-20150907-NIGHTLY-l900.zip) and Google Apps package for Galaxy Note 2 L900 on the desktop of your PC.

Step No 2:- Connect the phone via USB data cable to the computer and mount the USB mass storage of the phone.

Step No 3:- Transfer the downloaded Official CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM zipped file to the root folder of your SD card on the Galaxy Note 2. Once done, disconnect the device.

Step No 4:- Turn OFF the device in order to boot into Recovery Mode.

Step No 5:- Turn the Note 2 ON by pressing and holding Volume up + Home + Power buttons at the same time.

Step No 6:- While the phone is now in the CWM Recovery Mode, perform a full data wipe by selecting Wipe Data/Factory Reset. You can use Volume keys for navigation and Power button for selection in the Recovery Mode.

Step No 7:- Perform Wipe Cache Partition and wait until the process is successfully completed.

Step No 8:- Go to Advanced option to perform Wipe Dalvik Cache also. Select Wipe Dalvik Cache.

Note:Wipe Dalvik Cache will help you to prevent boot loop issues and other boot ROM related errors.

Step No 9:- Go back to the main menu of Recovery, choose Install Zip from SD card > Choose Zip from SD card.

Step No 10:- Select the CM12.1 Custom ROM zipped file which you have already copied to the root folder of your SD card in Step No 3. Select the ROM .zip file by tapping the Power button. Confirm the ROM installation to initiate.

Step No 11:- Once done, repeat Step No 9 and 10 to flash Google Apps on your Galaxy Note 2.

Step No 12:- After the installation is fully completed, navigate to “+++++Go Back+++++” and choose Reboot System Now from the Recovery menu.

The Galaxy Note 2 will be rebooted and it may take about 5 minutes to boot for the first time.

Done! You have successfully updated Galaxy Note 2 L900 to the latest CyanogenMod 12.1 Android 5.1 Lollipop stable build.

Once the installation is successfully finished, you can continue updating this CM 12.1 ROM with new official Stable / Nightly builds by navigating to Settings > About Phone > CyanogenMod Updates menu.
